ACTCM Welcomes Dr. Steve Given, New Dean of Clinical Education and Academic Assessment

Joining the ACTCM family as the new Dean of Clinical Education and Academic Assessment is Dr. Steve Given. Given received a master’s degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Emperor’s College in 1992 and a doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Bastyr University in 2006. He has twenty years experience in acupuncture and Oriental medicine education and patient care, including his work as an AOM educator and academic administrator. His areas of clinical interest include orthopedics, HIV/AIDS, oncology and addiction treatment.

Given has also worked at several AOM colleges, including as a faculty member at Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, as Dean for Clinical Education at Yo San University, and as Associate Dean and DAOM Program Director at Bastyr University. He is a commissioner with the Accreditation Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). He has served as a site visitor for a number of programmatic and regional accreditation organizations. ACTCM academic leadership believes Dr. Given will bring in new strength to ACTCM and will work with Dr. Bingzeng Zou, VPAA/Dean of Faculty, Academic Council (AC), clinical faculty, staff and students to improve the quality of clinical education and academic assessment.

In addition to his duties as the new clinic dean, Given will also take some time to instruct students in the classroom setting. Looking to enhance the clinic, ACTCM welcomes Dr. Steve Given, and encourages students to meet and interact with their new clinic Dean. His first day is April 19th, 2012.
