ACTCM’s Educational Partnership with Saybrook University

The American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) and Saybrook University (Saybrook) have agreed to partner together to reach their mutual goal of creating and promoting joint complementary and alternative health initiatives. Both organizations intend to collaborate in educational activities that will mutually benefit students and faculty at both institutions.

ACTCM and Saybrook share a common vision of integrative health care that combines the best elements of Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), including acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbal medicine. The partnership between these two organizations will include initiatives such as ACTCM instructors teaching courses at Saybrook’s School of Mind-Body Medicine (SMBM) and vice versa.

Of the partnership, ACTCM President Lixin Huang says, “It is important to make TCM available to students who don’t otherwise have access to such an education. We are excited and honored to partner with Saybrook University and for the opportunity this will bring students across the globe.” Saybrook Provost Dan Sewell shares this sentiment, stating, “We’ve known for years that one of the areas our students are most interested in exploring is traditional Chinese medicine. Often it’s something their patients want to know about, too. This partnership allows us to be on the forefront of helping to offer medical professionals around the country instruction of the highest caliber in this form of traditional healing. We’re very excited.”

Other objectives for the partnership between ACTCM and Saybrook include academic exchanges and clinical practicum experiences for students of both institutions; the creation of a joint first professional doctorate in TCM as an entry-level degree; collaboration in international educational projects in China; and other initiatives that will strengthen the ties between these two organizations.
