This course covers Chinese Medicine management of common pregnancy ailments and post-partum care.
Course Description:
In this class, pregnancy is reviewed from a Chinese medical perspective, including physiology, and medical issues that may arise. Specific conditions such as miscarriage, morning sickness, and common pregnancy ailments such as pre-eclampsia, malpresentations and labor augmentation. Chinese medicine support during post-partum care, mastitis, and insufficient lactation will be described.

About the Instructor:
Valerie Hobbs began her career as a western herbalist and direct-entry midwife in 1979. Seeking additional medical skills, she was an EMT-Paramedic from 1983-86. Valerie maintained a homebirth midwifery practice until 1995 when she was licensed in Colorado as an acupuncturist. Valerie worked as professor at Southwest Acupuncture College from 1998-2013, was the Campus Director from 1999-2013 and the Director of Program Development from 2013-2017. She was previously the Director of Postgraduate Doctoral Programs at ACTCM@CIIS. She is currently the Vice President of Academic Affairs at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine.
