Career Planning & Employment Assistance

Employment opportunities are published on the Colleges Job Bulletin Board, the ACTCM website, and in the Campus Forum and e-Current. Our large network of faculty and alumni also serves as an important career resource to graduates who are starting out in practice. In addition, the following resources help recent graduates build successful practices.

Bridging the Gap A quarterly lecture series presented by returning alumni who share real-life work experiences, successes and challenges with current ACTCM students. The series helps students to better grasp the realities of opening up an acupuncture office or joining other practitioners in a common healthcare enterprise.

Broadening Your Horizons - A quarterly lecture series introducing students to subjects that complement ones acupuncture practice and broaden the practitioners knowledge base. Topics are presents by leading experts in the field and have included Feng Shui, cooking with herbs, and career opportunities at Elephant Pharmacy and Wei Laboratories.

Transition to Success A monthly lecture series introducing third year interns and recent graduates to subjects that cover the nuts and bolts of operating their own acupuncture practice. Past topics have included choosing a location, creating a business plan, insurance billing, networking, bookkeeping, taxes, and marketing.

Student Mentorship Program A mentorship program pairing 3rd year students with ACTCM alumni who have an established practice in the Bay Area. The program enables current students to spend one quarter working and learning about the details of private practice set up and management.

Brown Bag Lecture Series A noon-time lecture held quarterly for students where an ACTCM faculty member discuss his/her area of specialty and shares pertinent patient case studies.

Community Outreach ACTCM strives to serve the local community through participation in local health fairs, public lectures, conferences and special events. Whenever possible, the college utilizes ACTCM student interns and new alumni as staff for these events. Participation in these activities provides interns with experience in public speaking, practice building, self-promotion, public education, media relations and TCM applications in a public setting.

Alumni Practitioners Directory A searchable online directory located on the ACTCM website that allows business referrals (and networking) for those graduates who practice throughout the country and around the world. Listing in the directory is by request.

Computer Facilities

Computer stations equipped with Internet and Medline access are available for academic and research use in the Library/Learning Resource Center and the Student Lounge. Wireless computer access is available in both campus buildings.

Housing Information & Referrals

The diverse neighborhoods of San Francisco offer a wide range of housing options. While the College does not provide housing, the Admissions Office and Student Services Department are available to provide assistance and answer questions regarding housing. In addition to providing referrals to online housing resources, the College maintains a bulletin board with information on available rentals. To help with the costs of relocating, the Admissions Office awards ten $500 Transitions Scholarships each year to new students who are relocating to San Francisco.

Health Services

TCM treatment is available to students in the Community Clinic at a discounted rate. Students also receive discounts on herbs. Should a student need conventional medical care, ACTCM has a referral list containing a number of low-cost clinic options.

Student Government

The Student Council provides a ready forum for students to give input on a wide range of issues, and to interact with faculty and administration in ways that help shape the learning experience. The Student Council is an invaluable resource to the College, and is often a catalyst for establishing new activities and finding solutions to issues that may arise.

To ensure that students have a voice in the governance of the College, one student representative elected by the student body serves as a full voting member on the Board of Directors. Student representatives also serve on a number of committees, including Graduation, Safety and WelfarCommittee, Library, and Strategic Planning.

Student Store

Created by the ACTCM student body and staffed by Federal Work Study students, the Student Store is located at Pioneer Square. It contains snack items, clinical supplies, ACTCM regalia, and class- notes. The Student Store is open to current students, staff, prospective students & alumni.

Work Study Opportunities

ACTCM hires students through the federal work-study program. For information about job opportunities at the College, contact the Office of the Dean of Students.
