Master's Degree:
Core and Clinical Curricula Offerings
In addition
to the required MSTCM Core didactic courses, ACTCM requires clinical
coursework in traditional Chinese medicine with an emphasis placed
upon clinical training. Approximately one-third of the Master's
degree program is devoted to clinical training as students are guided
to develop the highest standards of professionalism and patient
care. Clinic is the quantum leap from textbooks to the human condition
where medical principles of health and disease come to life. The
clinical training program is based within ACTCM's on-site Community
Clinic and extends to a variety of externships within San Francisco.
Patient contact is structured to maximize student instruction in
clinical practice. In addition to direct patient contact, students
are required to fill herbal prescriptions in the pharmacy and to
maintain case histories on all patients they observe and treat within
the clinical program. These case histories are reviewed by the attending
practitioners at the end of each quarter. The program provides both
clinical instruction, and instruction in practice management.
