Demystifying Chinese Medicine

Fee: $100

 

Over the course of 8 weeks, students will learn about "Qi" (the life force), Acupuncture, Chinese herbs, Tongue & Pulse diagnosis, Yin and Yang, 5 Elements, and the Chinese concept of internal organs. Discover more about this traditional medicine, which has been provided health and relief for over 2,500 years.

Introduction to Chinese Herbal Medicine

Fee: $100

 

This 8 week course explores many aspects of China’s 2,000 year history of herbal medicine, including the development of different schools of thought still practiced today, the art of synergistic herb combining, cooking with herbs, cultivation, endangered species & modern research. Included in the course are free herb samples and tastings, a field trip to Chinatown to tour herb and tea shops, and recipes to cook with herbs.

Introduction to Daoist Nutrition

Fee: $100

This 6 week course will introduce the student to the theory and practice of Daoist nutrition in the context of traditional Orthodox Chinese Daoism. Through lecture, demonstration and hands-on participation, each student will receive written information and practical experience in breathing techniques and selection and preparation of food. Students will become familiar with the principles and practices of Daoist macrobiotics (longevity practice) and be able to make informed decisions on the application of Daoist macrobiotics in their personal lives.

Introduction to Tai Chi
Fee: $100


T'ai Chi Ch'uan (Great Ultimate Fist) is a unique internal exercise based on the ideas of relaxation and cultivating softness. T'ai Chi Ch'uan is an excellent form of practice for people of all ages. It improves one's health by removing blockages that restrict the flow of qi (life energy) within the body. T'ai Chi strengthens and balances the internal organs and conditions the whole body (muscles, tendons, and ligaments), increases flexibility, and improves balance. Unsurpassed as a mind-body therapy, T'ai Chi Ch'uan helps to reduce stress and anxiety.

Introductory classes are held at one of two locations in the Potrero hill neighborhood, which are walking distance from one another. Upon registering for the course, you will be given the appropriate location information for your class.
